It was selected from Common Elder in 1965.It has become the most widespread planted elder. In late spring or early summer it bears tiny, branched, white, lacy flowers. The clusters might grow as well as 35 cm,which can weigh up to 0,4-0,6 kg when watered and planted in rich soil. The tiny, spherical, juicy purple-black to black seedy berries grow in branched clusters like the flowers, ripening from mid-summer to early fall.It is impossible to remove each berry individually,so harvesting is hand-made. It has been used as a food colorant.
